The biography of the programmer
The path to yourself. He promised Gregory last summer to write his story, now time has come! I am 44 years old and at the moment I have been working on a Java developer in Sberbank for almost a year. I want to tell my story here and share the experience of becoming myself as a Java programmer, maybe some points will be useful to future colleagues, those who are still looking for themselves, doubt, thinks.
After reading a few stories, he was surprised to find that I am not the only one, sooner or later there is a turning point in life, when you decide to live not on autopilot, but boldly control your movement forward. Well, about everything in order. A look into the past. Throughout my conscious life, I was always drawn to computers. In my youth, I remember for hours hanging with a microcalculator MK torture it according to articles from the magazine "Science and Life".
Then there was the first computer of the BC then DVK and so on appeared. The time was amazing, he remembered him all the time with nostalgia. For the third course of the institute, Fortran, Basik, Pascal and Assembler were studied. And then an adult life came. And for some reason it became important to earn money, to arrange a paradise life, as it was shown in the commercials of crazy x.
Youth hobbies were forgotten, and the seller’s harsh life came, though computer technology. 25 years have passed. During this time, one way or another, youthful hobby made itself felt. Sometimes nostalgia for sleepless nights with a book on Pascal and the launch of an interpreter with an exciting expectation, will earn or not, made itself felt. The thought creeped out: “But is I doing at all?
Subconsciously, I still returned to my favorite business and periodically wrote all sorts of macros on Visual Basic in Excel, in order to automate the work of my wards, facilitate the delivery of various reports and free the time for the party party, Warcraft, and then to Call of Duty. When 40 hit me, I still gave myself the liberty to stop and think about what I am doing in this life, what I do, how I live, why, why and so on to say that it was simple, no, I won’t say.
It was, first of all, it hurt. But it was worth it. After some time of the struggle, I finally managed to agree with myself and decided to return to the origins and fulfill my youthful dream, become a programmer. By the way, a course of 4BRanin “Self -knowledge” played an important role in this. When the decision was made, I worked as a commercial director in one respected company.
It was necessary to decide how to move to your dream without the detriment of current activities. The searches brought to Geekbrains, where at first I looked at a few free webinars and thought about which programming language is closer to me now. For Pascal, Basik had already sunk into oblivion, and it was necessary to decide what came to the replacement. After conducting research, I leaned towards Java.
From my point of view, this mature technology that allows you to create worthy applications for the enterprise on the one hand, and mobile applications on the other, fully gave me a sense of fidelity of choice. Further, during the year I went remotely several courses on the basics of Java and mobile development and decided on my focus, I decided to still become a Java Backend developer, as it seemed to me the closest spirit.
I can’t help but mention that feeling of complete oblivion when you have a task and you write the code without noticing time and space. About the feeling of euphoria, when what was planned for the first time earned, it is comparable to the birth of a new living creature! Having experienced this feeling again after 25 years, I clearly realized that I made the right choice and that I would no longer turn off this road!
After that there was a year of intensity in various Geekbrains courses. At the beginning of the year, I realized that the time for a career step came. I wrote a statement of my own free will in the current place and rushed to HH. Many will probably say that it would be necessary to find a place first, and then write a statement. I will answer this way, I would still look for a java developer if I did this.
It was necessary to leave the comfort zone! Having visited the first interview, I realized that the device for work is a separate skill! And also I understood my weaknesses, and from an interview to interviews I did work on mistakes, corrected my resume, rehearsed the introductory speech still asked: “How is this, to abandon the directorship and come to Juna, where is the catch?
I passed only half the course, as I went to the work of my dreams and all my strength was given there! Nevertheless, Gregory, I want to thank you separately: your initiative and a set of courses are excellent!
Now I plan to complete Topjava and go through Basejava to eliminate white spots in the foundation. After two months, I passed a little more than 30 interviews in 17 companies. As a result, I chose between two and opted for Sberbank. I liked the team and conditions. I managed to successfully pass the trial period. At the moment, I received a promotion, and also took up teaching, I read a course on the basics of Java for my colleagues.
Looking around last year, I can advise focusing on the study of Coursera algorithms offers excellent free courses, basics, including writing a clean year, the main design patterns. Knowledge of English is also extremely necessary, I am engaged in a mobile application from Duolingo. Plus, learn how to print ten fingers, it unrealizes time. Friends, I sincerely wish you to do your favorite thing, do not betray yourself, follow your dream!
Believe in success, and he will not be long in coming, be stubborn and do not give up!
