Pinhasov biography

At the beginning of my creative formation, Tarkovsky liked my photo works, but when we met personally, he referred as an example to Henri Cartier-Bresson, which I did not know about then. I could not ignore the advice from the person whom I considered my guru, although at that time I did not want to remove reports or look into the private life of other people. He was right, the world changed quickly.

Who would have thought that the Soviet Union would disappear. When we look at these photos today, that life seems some kind of exotic. ” Pinhasov compiled his portrait of the decade, photographing the creative underground of the 10ths, documenting nightlife and youth culture in the Russian capital in the early X. At the same time, the photographer shot streets, squares, stations and offices to reflect the complexity of time.

Nevertheless, nostalgia is in his pictures. In the year, Georgy Pinhasov moved to Paris, and joined the international photo agency Magnum Photos, after which he regularly cooperates with the international press, in particular with GEO, Actuel and New York Times. Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a special style of artistic reporting Pinhasov turns ordinary everyday scenes into abstract and surrealist.

In one frame, the cockerel enters a bright ray of light, its red comb contrasts sharply with white plumage; In another, hundreds of lanterns are reflected and sparkled in the market in Marrakesh; In the third, the blonde lights a cigarette and her face is hidden in a cloud of smoke. Each image is a kind of visual stream of consciousness. However, no matter how abstract my photos are, there is always a hint of material content.
