Biography of Van Gogh
He lived only 37 years. He devoted 10 years to painting, creating more works during this time. During the life of Van Gogh, he was little known and poor. Perhaps the most popularized fact of his biography was the cut ear. But in the life of the artist there were enough suffering and oddities that greatly influenced his personality. Van Gogh was born in a rather wealthy family. Father and grandfather were clergymen.
Over time, he came to the idea of serving in the church. Van Gogh was burning the idea of helping the poor. He refused to enter the university and study theology. Instead, he went to the poor Shakhtersky district, where he read the Bible with an illiterate worker, taught their children, visited the sick. He turned to the management of the mine with a request to improve the working conditions of workers.
However, the petition was rejected, and Van Gogh was removed from the post of preacher. It was a serious blow for him. Van Gogh began to seriously engage in the creative path in the summer. On the advice of Brother Theo, with whom he had close relations, he went to study in Brussels. However, studying at the academy did not last long. Van Gogh decided to take lessons from practicing artists, although he remained self -taught in many ways.
In the creative search, Van Gogh found himself at the origins of a new direction, called post -impressionism. His works reflected feelings. Van Gog's work had a great influence on the development of expressionism in painting. Some periods of work were so active that Van Gogh could create a new work in less than two days. Van Gogh often wrote self -portraits. This was due to his poverty - he could not pay for the services of models.
Thanks to this heritage, today you can trace changes in the life of the artist. One of the most famous portraits depicts an artist with a tied ear. The artist lived in poverty. He was supported by Brother Theo. All funds went to work. There was not enough money even for food. Van Gogh admitted in a letter to his brother that sometimes he had to eat paint. At that time, the paint was made using lead, which could not but affect the poor health of Vincent.
Do not forget that he did not lead the most healthy lifestyle. For all the time of work, the artist sold only one picture - "Red Vinogram in Arle." According to another version, this work was sold for a serious amount, and in total 14 canvases were sold. Ironically, today his work is considered one of the most expensive. Loneliness and pain all his life Van Gogh felt lonely and reached for people in search of friendship and support.
Only Theo did not stop helping him. Theo was so attached to his brother that he could not recover after his death. He experienced Vincent for only six months. The wife of Theo gathered the works of Vincent and the correspondence of the brothers. It was she who retained the artist’s legacy. And Mother Van Gogh, on the contrary, considered his work stupid and got rid of them. Van Gogh possessed a subtle and aggravated sense of the world.
He painfully perceived injustice. Together with poverty and undermined health, this led to mental disorders. Van Gogh experienced periods of depression and hopelessness. At one of these moments, he committed a well -known act. This happened after a quarrel with a friend of Gauguin. In an emotional impulse, Van Gogh cut off the earlobe, packed it and attributed it to Gauguin's girlfriend.
According to the latter, the woman called the police who found Van Gogh unconscious. Was it so in reality - it remains a mystery. After this incident, Van Gogh was completely desperate. In the last years of his life, he often visited a psychiatric hospital. At this time, he wrote the famous works “Star Night” and “Sunflowers”. During the openier, the artist committed suicide according to another version, it was a murder.
Perhaps modern doctors would be able to make Van Gogh an accurate diagnosis and help him. However, in the nineteenth century it was impossible. Photo: Pixabay.
